Birthers shouldn't breathe

I'm getting a kick out of this whole birther movement claiming that either Obama is not a citizen or that his documents don't prove he is a citizen.  Whatever!

Well, I checked my records.  I had been required to get different documentation than I had possessed at the time in order to obtain a  US Passport.

The document that I had to apply to the county for and pay for says on it, "Cerification of Vital Record ....  State of Illinois .... Certificate of Live Birth."  It doesn't have any kind of watermark or embossed seal, just colored patterns on the paper, presumably to make it harder to photocopy or duplicate.  It has my parents' names and only my mom's signature, as well as the doctor's signature.  The entire document was very noticeably reprinted from some other source.

On the other hand, I have the OTHER document.  This document has the name and location of the hospital on what is quite obviously the hospital's original document.  It has my name hand-written and the day and time, also hand-written.  It has the doctor's and Executive Director (of the hospital?) also hand-written.  It has a hand-written.   Hospital No.  And it has a big, huge, gold embossed seal in the corner with the hospital name and the word "SEAL."    This document appears to be the actual, original document given out at the time of my birth.  Interestingly, this latter document was not acceptable for a attaining a US Passport.

Friday after work, I went and bought a new pair of gym shoes.  I also bought a pair of insoles for my work/casual shoes.  Hopefully they will help my feet and back.  I also picked up a gift for drmagoo's kid for the party Saturday.

Saturday, I drove down to Champaign.  I had an awesome time at Ethan's Birthday Party.  That kid is way too cute.

Sunday, I stopped off and visited with my parents while they were working.

Now it's back to work.  Ugh.  Monday morning started out pretty bad.  One of the guys in the shop wanted to return some parts.  When I asked him why, he told me that we will no longer be using them.  This touched off the whole parts matching drawings so that inventory is accurate .... blah, blah, blah....   I've been down this road so many times now that I have begun to intentionally try to run people over if they get in my way.....  Anyway, I was kinda grumpy the entire rest of the day.  (This is getting added to my To Do list which I may post about in the future.  It isn't about to go away, and I feel I'm reaching a breaking point.)

Birthday meme

Stolen from

[info]terani , but I'm ignoring the numbers and posting however many are interesting to me:

Birthday Meme: Look up your birthday in Wikipedia. Pick 4 events, 3 births, 2 deaths, and 1 holiday.

EVENTS:
1776 - George Washington and his army cross the Delaware River to attack the Kingdom of Great Britain's Hessian mercenaries in Trenton, New Jersey.
1868 - U.S. President Andrew Johnson grants unconditional pardon to all Civil War Confederate soldiers.
1914 - World War I: Known as the Christmas truce, German and British troops on the Western Front temporarily cease fire.
1968 - Apollo program: Apollo 8 performs the very first successful Trans Earth Injection (TEI) maneuver, sending the crew and spacecraft on a trajectory back to Earth from Lunar orbit.
1973 - The ARPANET crashes when a programming bug causes all ARPANET traffic to be routed through the server at Harvard University, causing the server to freeze.
1990 - The first successful trial run of the system which would become the World Wide Web.

BIRTHS
1821 - Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross (d. 1912)
1899 - Humphrey Bogart, American actor (d. 1957)
1924 - Rod Serling, American television writer (d. 1975)
1946 - Jimmy Buffett, American singer and songwriter
1946 - Larry Csonka, American football player
1950 - Karl Rove, PIECE OF SHIT (I didn't know I shared bday with this whore)
1954 - Annie Lennox, Scottish singer, from Aberdeen
1971 - Dido, English singer
1980 - Marcus Trufant, American football player (Seattle Seahawks)

DEATHS
Skipping this because who wants to associate birthdays with death?!

HOLIDAYS
Christmas, obviously.
(Re) birth of Sol Invictus. The winter solstice feast in the Roman Empire from 274 to 391. (Reason for Christmas being celebrated on this day??)

Caleb Goalie #1

This is not a good vacation

*forgive the jumbled incoherence of this post as it was pieced together from several other postings I have made to my family.

My parents and I are up in Canada at my sister Sheri's place north of Ignace, Ontario. We got here Saturday evening. Sunday we had a luau for Sheri's (early) birthday. My youngest nephew Caleb's throat was a bit swollen and he was talking funny. ...... He wasn't complaining or in pain but it got bad enough that Sheri and Jamie drove him to the emergency room in Sioux Lookout. He was there over night and the tested his white cell count to determine it wasn't tonsilitis like we all had expected. There is a growth in his throat that no one recognized and they didn't want to just cut it out without knowing what they were dealing with. They recommended taking him to Thunder Bay. Jamie came back to the camp, picked up my mom and dad, and they went back to the hospital and then took him over to the hospital in Thunder Bay (all said is about 4 or more hours driving).  They did a chest x-ray on Monday, and it was clear. The E.N.T. performed and evaluate a CT scan on him Tuesday morning.   His chest looked clear and it seemed exclusive to his tonsils and addenoids.  Caleb went into surgery Wednesday morning.   It was apparently so inflamed that the doctor didn't want to remove it.   He took a biopsy, but said they may not know results for 2 days - 3 weeks (don't ask me why).   They want to keep him at least overnight and probably until Friday to make sure there are no complications or bleeding.

Sheri said that "Caleb came out of recovery awake and smiling, the sweetie that he is. When asked how he was he replied with his signature, "Good" --his typical response when asked how he is."

So we got to spend 1 day together, then Caleb has been in the hospital since (accompanied by his parents and grandparents).  I've stayed at camp to try to help out a bit along with Jamie's parents who are pretty much running the camp as best they can.  We've all been mostly just worried sick and waiting to hear news.  And to make matters worse, we had a huge storm last night which took out the electricity, which at camp means not only loss of lights, but water (pumped from the lake), and most importantly the phone.  We were out for about 17hrs total.

Darwinmania!

The party is about to begin.

In a week or so, the trumpets will sound, heralding the start of 18 months of non-stop festivities in honor of Charles Darwin. July 1, 2008, is the 150th anniversary of the first announcement of his discovery of natural selection, the main driving force of evolution. Since 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth (Feb. 12), as well as being the 150th anniversary of the publication of his masterpiece, “On the Origin of Species” (Nov. 24), the extravaganza is set to continue until the end of next year. Get ready for Darwin hats, t-shirts, action figures, naturally selected fireworks and evolving chocolates. Oh, and lots of books and speeches.  (Full article)
